Built in 1723 under the rule of Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, Fort Manoel is a masterpiece of baroque military architecture.
Over the centuries, it has played a key role in Malta’s history, serving as an extension of the Lazzaretto Hospital in the 1800s and later being christened HMS Phoenicia during British rule.
Following an extensive restoration by MIDI plc in the early 2000s, the fort now stands proudly over Marsamxett Harbour, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and witness its architectural splendour up close.
