Four Kilometres Of New Underground Cables To Reinforce Mellieħa’s Electrical Grid
Ongoing infrastructure work in Mellieħa will see the addition of four kilometres of new underground electrical cables to improve the locality’s electrical grid.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by Enemalta to increase resilience and flexibility across the country’s distribution network.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta as part of Enemalta’s commitment to laying 60 kilometres of new underground cables in 21 localities across Malta and Gozo.
“The work being done in Mellieħa is part of the strengthening efforts that Enemalta is undertaking in the distribution system. This strategic investment is improving local connectivity and strengthening our grid,” said Energy Minister Miriam Dalli.
“With these projects, we are ensuring that the resilience of our network is much stronger, and that the energy infrastructure is more sustainable.”
Enemalta Executive Chairman Ryan Fava highlighted the progress made in recent years, noting that 2024 saw the laying of over 82 kilometres of new underground cables, the commissioning of 54 new substations, and reinforcement work in 76 existing substations.
“So far, 166 feeders of 400/230V have been replaced and connected to the network, and 47 kilometres of overhead lines have been replaced to modernise the distribution network,” he explained.
Do you think these new cables will be enough to combat power cuts this summer?
