‘Frodi Biss Frodi Spiss’: PN Announces Second Protest Calling For Clint Camilleri’s Resignation
The Nationalist Protest has announced a second protest since the surfacing of the scandals involving over €120,000 unjustifiably given to former tourism minister Clayton Bartolo’s wife Amanda Muscat.
In light of Bartolo’s resignation and expulsion from the Labour Party earlier today, the Opposition Party is insisting that this is not enough: Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri must also resign.
The protest will take place on Monday at 6pm in front of parliament, two weeks after the PN’s last protest.
Bartolo resigned from his role as tourism minister weeks after a Standards Commissioner report found that he and Camilleri were abusing their ministerial powers by granting Muscat a lucrative consultancy job that she was not qualified and did not do.
However, this is not why Bartolo resigned. The former tourism minister stepped down after discovering that the Times of Malta was aware of a second scandal involving suspected kickbacks worth tens of thousands of euros issued to his wife in connection with a Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) contract.
The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit investigated Muscat’s work with a private company that was linked with an MTA contractor: Italian cyclist Valerio Agnoli.
Agnoli was awarded an annual contract of €20,000 to help promote cycling tourism in Malta. Investigators found that Muscat was given €50,000 over a period of six months by a company linked to Agnoli, they suspect that these were kickbacks for an MTA-related contract.
Muscat began her assignment for this company in 2023; around 18 months after she lost her high-paying consultancy job.
