From Malta To Silicon Valley: The Wall Street Journal Highlights Alex Aguis Saliba’s Successful Push for Apple’s Port Change

Maltese MEP Alex Aguis Saliba was featured in The Wall Street Journal after “He Took On the World’s Most Valuable Company—and Won”

Last year, Aguis Saliba became instrumental in the European Parliament’s work towards establishing a common charger law, whereby consumers would no longer need a new charger for every device purchased.

This means that consumers across the European Union would be able to use the same charger for all small and medium-sized electronic gadgets – making it more convenient but also better for the environment as there will be less waste.

Although the initiative was well-received by most, the MEP admitted to experiencing pushback from larger corporations – like Apple. For this reason, Aguis Saliba took to social media to voice his concerns over the sneaky way that Apple was rumoured to be following this new law.

“Apple is expected to release a new iPhone that will be USB-C compatible, but if you don’t buy an original charger from Apple, the charging speed will be lower,” Agius Saliba said.

Apple is set to introduce its newest iPhone this week, and it will certainly include a USB-C charging port, marking a win for EU legislators. The expected updates will be seen in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, which are set to be launched on 12th September during Apple’s yearly Autumn event.

Apple’s projected shift to USB-C also signifies a notable achievement for Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba.
