Galdes Rejects Claims Of Impropriety In Gozo Penthouse Deal

Minister Roderick Galdes said he is prepared to face any scrutiny by the authorities and has nothing to hide when asked about calls for an independent investigation into the purchase of a low-priced property.

“I assure you that all I did was lawful and the money that I paid was through a bank. Different to what is being said, the penthouse is not luxurious- it is in shell form to this day,” said Galdes.

Galdes is under pressure after it emerged that he bought an apartment with a garage in Gozo for €140,000. The apartment, located in the Tal-Gelmus development, was built by a consortium led by contractors Joseph Portelli, Mark Agius, and Daniel Refalo. The same consortium was later awarded a government contract to lease 104 apartments to the state for use as social housing according to Newsbook.

Minister Galdes maintains that the price he paid reflects the amount at which the apartment was being offered in 2021. At that time, he paid €5,000 to freeze the price. He signed the preliminary agreement in 2024, and the purchase was completed in 2025.
