‘Għeziez BCRS’: Leading Maltese Author Calls Out Long Queues And Lack Of Machines Across Island
Leading Maltese author Lara Calleja has questioned the efficiency of Malta’s new recycling scheme over limitations in handling the country’s needs.
In a strongly worded post about the local recycling system, she drew attention to the urgent need for systemic improvements.
“Thank you for forcing up to depend on you to throw away and recycle items under your grace and incompetency,” Calleja said in a new post.
“500 thousand Maltese residents have to rely on 350 machines!”
She called out long queues, a lack of facilities, and one company “with no motivation to be competent” running it all.
Calleja also further criticised the lack of multiple deposits for plastic in areas where the machines were stationed, leading to a bottleneck situation and long queues.
“Competition often breeds competence,” she noted, pointing out that the lack of contenders might have resulted in a complacent service provider without the need to innovate or improve.
Calleja then offered a vivid image of her personal experience, describing a car loaded with plastic materials and her attempt to move from Isla to Marsaskala due to a lack of functional machines and overwhelming queues.
A broken machine here, another full to the brim, the challenges were many.
Do you think there should be more companies with recycling schemes cooperating with the state?
