Health Authorities ‘Ready To Take Over Hospitals’ After Steward ‘Abandons’ Operations
The government has just said that Malta’s Health Authorities are ready to take over the hospitals after Steward “abandoned” operations.
This comes after Steward Health Care Malta announced the termination of the concession contract with the government of Malta, following “breaches of commercial agreements”.
“The government refers to Steward Malta’s statement earlier today that they have decided to abandon the operation of the hospitals,” it said in a statement.
“In these circumstances, the Health Authorities are in a position to immediately operate the hospitals in question. In this way, the government will once again reassure the employees that their work is guaranteed.”
“The government also reassures that citizens, including patients, will continue to receive the highest level of health service that our country is known for.”
It also declared that it does not agree with the way Steward abandoned operations, nor does it agree with the reasons given and the demands being made.
“We will be responding in the most appropriate way in the best national interest,” it concluded
“The company believes that the operating environment and investment climate in Malta is not conducive for foreign companies to have a constructive partnership with the Government,” Steward Health Care Malta (SHCM) said in a statement earlier today, announcing the concession termination.
Steward is now saying that the Government’s failure to appeal the Civil Court verdict that labelled its own behaviour corrupt is an admission of guilt in relation to its own governance failings.
