Heritage Experts Awarded Warrants And Competence Certificates

At an official ceremony, the Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, presented a warrant or Certificate of Heritage Competence to fourteen individuals working in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration.
In total, thirteen people were awarded a Certificate of Heritage Competence, the fourth time this certificate has been issued by the Restorers’ Warrant Board.
This brings the total number of such certificates awarded to 58 to date. One individual was also granted a warrant, bringing the total number of warrants issued to 63.

Minister Bonnici explained that through these warrants and certificates issued by the Restorers’ Warrant Board, the skills of these professionals are being formally recognised.
He noted that, since conservation and restoration work on culturally valuable items requires the highest standards of technique, materials, diligence and ethics, the Cultural Heritage Act mandates that such work may only be carried out by those holding a warrant or a Certificate of Heritage Competence issued in accordance with the provisions of the Act.

Minister Bonnici concluded by thanking all those who have contributed over the years, particularly the Chairperson of the Board, Dr Joseph Buttigieg and the rest of the board, who have played a key role in ensuring that today we are able to recognise these professionals and workers through the awarding of warrants or Certificates of Heritage Competence.
