A hiker had to be airlifted to hospital during yesterday’s public holiday after suffering a fall in the remote area of Qarraba Bay, prompting a coordinated rescue operation between Civil Protection Malta and the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).

Responders from Fire Station 3 were first on the scene, but due to the challenging terrain and limited access, aerial assistance was called in.

An AFM helicopter was swiftly deployed to the site, where the hiker was safely secured and flown to Mater Dei Hospital for medical treatment.

The Civil Protection Department has thanked all teams involved in the successful operation and extended their well wishes to the injured hiker for a full and speedy recovery.
