‘I Went Through It Myself When I Lost A Baby’: Labour MP Compares Jean Paul Sofia Case To Miscarriage

Labour MP Katya De Giovanni spoke directly with Jean Paul Sofia’s parents – by comparing her miscarriage with the case of their son’s construction death.
De Giovanni was answering a comment left by the Għal Jean Paul Facebook page on her socials which called out the fact that the Labour MP was among those who voted against the motion to open a public inquiry into his death.
“How uncomfortable you looked on Wednesday! How important is your seat for you when you know deep down that if it was your child you wouldn’t have voted against? Where’s your heart?” Għal Jean Paul commented.
The page, which is managed by the family and friends of Sofia, even accused the MP of only caring about the money.
“If I only cared about the money, I would have remained as a consultant,” De Giovanni said, replying in a comment.
“I can assure you that I voted how I did to ensure that whoever committed this act goes to prison. I looked at you and your rights, because you can so easily be used when you’re in your situation,” De Giovanni wrote.
“I went through it myself when I miscarried a baby,” she continued.
In response, Għal Jean Paul asked De Giovanni once again: “If it was your son, how would you have voted?”
In the thread, De Giovanni continued to argue with various commentators, even saying that she had once offered help to Sofia’s mother.
“Yes you offered your help and I appreciated, you would have helped me more if you proved your worth of an MP with conscience and with the strength of a woman and a mother who defends the worker, not the big guys!” Sofia’s mother replied.
Għal Jean Paul continued to stress that De Giovanni needed to know the difference between a public inquiry and a magisterial one.
“I am worried now that your group was misled big time. You all keep repeating justice, court, jail… My plea was investigating the system and you voted no for that!”
“No wonder the construction sector is in a mess and it looks that you all MPs prefer it that way!”
