Popular activist organisation Moviment Graffitti has staged a powerful ‘die-in’ protest in solidarity with Palestine.

We are here in solidarity with the people in Gaza who are the victims of cruelty that we cannot even imagine,” the organisation wrote on social media.

A Facebook live of the demonstration shows dozens of people lying down on the stairs in front of parliament with some protesters draped with flags of Palestine,  as the recorded sounds of bombs fill the Maltese capital.

The attendees lay down on the stairs to send an impactful message; this occurred following speeches by a number of activists.

The Palestinians in Gaza are being massacred by Israel with the complicity of Europe. Incessant bombings led to thousands of children, women, and men being brutally killed. Gaza is also dying of thirst, hunger, and desperation after Israel stopped the entry of water, food, and fuel.”

Gaza is a strip of land the size of Malta, turned into a prison by Israel in 2007. About two and a half million Palestinians live in it, most of them refugees who were forcibly expelled from their lands in 1948 when the Israeli state was created,” the group continued.

For 75 years, Israel expelled the Palestinians from their homes and implemented a system of apartheid. And even in the last two remaining corners – Gaza and the West Bank – Israel continued to besiege and colonize them.”

But now Israel has moved on to the next phase. Genocide. International solidarity with the Palestinian people was never as needed as it is now. Europe should immediately ask for the cessation of attacks on Gaza and impose sanctions on Israel as long as it continues to occupy the Palestinian lands.”
