In Photos: Politicians Come Together For President’s Charity Walk
Politicians from both the Nationalist and the Labour parties have come together to participate in the Walk with the President, in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF).
Images and footage from this afternoon’s event show hundreds of people walking for this charitable cause led by President Myriam Spiteri Debono, including Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech.
All wearing this year’s edition T-shirts, those who attended walked from St. Anthony’s Palace to St. George’s Square in a wave of solidarity and generosity with those in need.
In a speech at the end of the walk, the President of Malta addressed those present, appealing to them to maintain the unity they had shown with this gesture in their daily lives, and praising them for the sense of helping their neighbours that distinguishes the Maltese.
Officials from the Police Force, the Armed Forces of Malta, the Civil Protection Department, officers from the Correctional Services Agency, Transport Malta and LESA, as well as volunteers from the Malta Red Cross assisted with the walk and also joined with the participants.
The President also recalled that this activity is one of a series of others which take place throughout the year in aid of the MCCF.
She mentioned that the MCCF helps not only those in need of oncological care, but a wide range of other social needs.
In addition to the donations from the public, at the end of the walk, Prime Minister Robert Abela presented a donation of €20,000 from the Just Causes Fund to the Malta Community Chest Fund.
