Investigation Launched After Light Aircraft Incident Temporarily Closes Malta Airport’s Primary Runway

Malta International Airport released a statement reporting an incident involving a light aircraft on the MIA’s primary runway yesterday afternoon.

Rescue and Firefighting Services were dispatched to the scene immediately and no injuries were reported. A follow-up investigation has been launched.

It was reported that at the time, the airport’s primary runway was limited to departures while the secondary runway was being used for landings. Naturally some flights were impacted due to the incident but the airport team worked towards resuming normal operations.

The airport team confirmed that runway operations resumed at 5.33pm and went on to apologise for any inconveniences caused. They also went on to thank the first responders, airport teams and relevant authorities for their swift and coordinated efforts in resolving the situation safely and efficiently.
