After thanking everyone for attending yesterday’s vigil, the Għal Jean Paul Facebook page spoke out, distancing themselves from attacks made on Prime Minister Robert Abela.

Upon his arrival at last night’s vigil, Prime Minister Robert Abela was met with an angry mob of shouting citizens.

“We definitely had nothing to do with it as the vigil had ended and we had already left,” Għal Jean Paul said on Facebook.

“Neither my family nor I participated in or encouraged this act,” they continued.

A few people did welcome Abela with open arms, however it only took a couple of seconds before a loud and angry crowd began to chase him down as police rushed to his aid.

Amidst jeers and shouts calling him “Purċinell”, Abela had to be escorted away from the scene by police and a small group of supporters as he was chased down towards the Parliament building.

Thousands of people gathered in Valletta in the name of Sofia only mere hours after Abela announced a public inquiry into the young man’s death – five days after leading a parliamentary vote which saw all 40 MP’s on his side reject the same Inquiry.
