Joseph Muscat’s Severance Package Includes Taxpayer Funded Assistant, €2.3K In Calls And Wifi
Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s severance package includes a taxpayer-funded assistant, over €2,000 in mobile phone calls, and home wifi.
This was revealed by Prime Minister Robert Abela through a recent parliamentary question filed by PN MP Graham Bencini, enquiring on the details of Joseph Muscat’s severance package, which was approved back in 2019.
The package also includes a paid car with a driver, two landlines, a computer with a printer and scanner, a transitional allowance, the use of an office, a copy of the Government gazette, and the use of a second car, which his wife Michelle Muscat is using.
And on top of all that, Muscat never had his diplomatic passport taken away after his resignation from his position, which means he still benefits from special travel access rights.
A few years back, it had been revealed that Muscat obtained a severance pay similar to the one former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had received, of €120,000. His allowances are similar to those that were given to other former Prime Ministers in the past.
Muscat stepped down as Prime Minister in January 2020 following a political crisis that linked his office to the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
