Kamra Tal-Periti Appointed As Lead Consultant In Drafting Malta’s National Building Codes

Minister Jonathan Attard has formally appointed Kamra tal-Periti (KTP) as the lead consultant in the drafting of Malta’s National Building and Construction Codes, marking a historic milestone for the architectural profession.
The appointment follows years of campaigning by the Kamra for the implementation of its Modern Building and Construction Regulation Framework, first published in 2019 in response to a series of building collapses across Malta.
This agreement brings together public sector entities and industry stakeholders to work towards a common goal—implementing the Sofia public inquiry recommendations and adopting European standards in the sector over the next three years.
The National Building Council, which includes KTP and the Malta Developers Association (MDA), has been a key driver in pushing for reforms to improve safety, accountability, and transparency in the construction industry.
KTP described its appointment as a significant responsibility and a turning point for the industry, which has faced growing scrutiny over safety concerns.
“The Kamra is honoured to have earned the trust of the Government and industry stakeholders in taking the lead on such an important and delicate task. It is committed to living up to the expectations that are being placed on it,” the chamber said.
The drafting of the new building and construction codes will be a crucial step in addressing long-standing concerns within the industry, setting the foundation for a safer and more regulated built environment in Malta.
