Kamra Tal-Periti Unveils Visionary Green Park Proposal In Place Of controversial Msida Creek Project
Kamra tal-Periti has unveiled a plan to transform the heart of Msida into a lush green park, offering a compelling alternative to the government’s proposed flyover. The Chamber of Architects’ proposal aims to complete the project in less time, at no additional cost, and with minimal disruption to residents during construction. This initiative seeks to provide a much-needed green lung in one of Malta’s most polluted areas.
The alternative plan to the controversial Msida Creek Project envisions converting the busy junction into a 20,000-square-meter park filled with over 2,000 trees. Kamra tal-Periti insists that this green park would not only enhance the urban environment and provide a natural oasis for residents and visitors but also improve traffic flow in the area.
Instead of constructing a flyover to connect Ix-Xatt Ta’ L-Imsida (the coast road around Pietà) to Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli (leading up to the skatepark), Kamra tal-Periti proposes diverting traffic further west around the junction close to Valley Road. Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli would be closed to cars, with only buses and taxis allowed in a southbound direction. The road would be covered and repurposed for sports grounds and a children’s play area.
Closing Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli to cars would also allow for the expansion and redesign of the skatepark, offering better facilities for skating enthusiasts by reclaiming existing road surfaces.
Kamra tal-Periti has invested hundreds of hours in developing these plans, presenting them as a superior alternative to those scheduled to be implemented by Infrastructure Malta next month. KTP president Andre Pizzuto noted that it is still possible for the government to change course by submitting new plans to the Planning Authority.
Work on the Msida Creek project is slated to commence late next month after the feast of St. Joseph.
