‘Keep Me In Your Prayers’: Young Maltese Mother With Rare Cancer Flies For Treatment After Nationwide Fundraiser

A 22-year-old Maltese mother, Kimberly Zammit, has left for Germany to undergo specialised cancer treatment after a nationwide fundraising effort helped her secure the necessary funds.
“My journey to Germany begins here, and I would like to thank the community because this is with their help. Keep me in your prayers and may God grant all goes well,” Kimberly wrote on social media before departing.
Kimberly, who lives in Birżebbuġa, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, while she was pregnant with her daughter.
She gave birth at just 19 years old and immediately began treatment in the UK, but the disease continued to spread.
Despite rounds of treatment, doctors discovered another tumour in her breast, and the cancer continued advancing aggressively. In a devastating update, Kimberly learned that she had three more tumours growing inside her.
Running out of options, she came across a hospital in Germany offering a specialised treatment that could potentially help manage her condition. However, each injection cost €3,900, making the treatment financially impossible without help.
Determined to fight for her own life and for her daughter, Kimberly turned to the public for support. Within weeks, people from across Malta rallied together, raising more than €50,000 to help fund her medical journey.
In a tearful video shared after reaching her initial fundraising goal, Kimberly expressed overwhelming gratitude for the kindness of strangers who contributed to her cause.
“I am truly speechless… I’d like to thank everyone who believed in me, who loved me without even knowing me, and who helped me so I could live for my daughter,” she said.
Kimberly has now officially started her treatment in Germany, a milestone that wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of so many people who came forward to help.
While Kimberly has secured enough for her initial treatment, her medical battle is ongoing. Those who wish to contribute can keep following updates on social media for any future fundraising needs.
Good luck Kimberly!
