Leading Maltese Statistician Says PN Isn’t Progressing But PL Is Struggling With Its Own Voters
Leading Maltese statistician Vincent Marmara commented on a recent MaltaToday political poll that put the Nationalist Party (PN) in the lead by 12,000 votes, saying his research yielded different results.
He said that while the PL is struggling with a chunk of its own voters, who are unsure whether or not to vote at the next election, these people aren’t turning to the PN. He said the conclusions drawn by the original survey come from a flawed interpretation of the numbers.
“The people know that the government is giving them money. But this is not enough anymore. The people have different expectations,” he said.
One of the main reasons for the PL’s downfall, Marmara commented, is the switch from the government trying to lead constituents to putting its agenda in the “hands of associations and social media.” He used the “issue of foreigners” in Malta to exemplify his point – saying that it is the job of both parties to convince and show the public where foreign people are needed.
“Parties are there to give direction to the country […] An election is not won by likes but by minds and hearts.”
Meanwhile, the votes of the Opposition have not increased and will not unless certain changes are made, according to Marmara’s soon-to-be-published research.
“Without these changes, its chances solely rely on the government’s choices.”
