LESA Slaps 68 Contraventions On Caravans Since Last July’s Law Change
LESA has given out 68 contraventions to caravans since the introduction of the new regulations back in July 2023.
The regulations state that temporary caravans, as well as campers and campsites, require permits to set up between the months of June and September every year.
The permit comes at a minimum fee of €5 a day.
For a caravan to set up base wherever they want, the caravan user has to apply for a permit through the local council. Then, it’s completely up to the town’s authority to decide whether or not they’ll issue a permit.
Meanwhile, local councils have also been given the power to apply for permits for designated camping sites in their locality, for a fee of €10 a day.
This regulation came into effect on 1st July 2023. So, Lovin Malta reached out to LESA to find out how many contraventions were issued to caravans parked without permission from the council or breaking the conditions outlined in the permit since that date.
Being caught breaking these rules results in a minimum fine of €100 that can climb up to €500, drivers will also be charged €50 for each day that the offence persists.
