In the wake of Jan Pace’s death, Crisis Resolution Malta has issued a heartfelt appeal urging the country to turn collective grief into lasting action.

Describing the last few days as a time of immense solidarity, the organisation praised the thousands who came together in the search — from police and rescue teams to volunteers across Malta and Gozo.

But they stressed that this unity must now go further, calling for a nationwide push to improve suicide prevention and crisis response. They encouraged people to speak more openly about suicide in a non-sensational way, pointing to evidence that such conversations reduce stigma and save lives. The group also promoted their ‘Crisis Talk’ initiative, a session designed to help communities recognise signs of crisis and respond effectively.

Crisis Resolution Malta is also campaigning for the national suicide prevention strategy to be expanded, ensuring all relevant organisations are involved and proper protocols are in place. The group warned that the current strategy remains incomplete and lacks broad consultation.
“Let Jan’s death not be wasted,” they said. “Let Jan — and so many others who may never be mentioned — unite us.”

Should Malta take stronger action to prevent suicide?
