Singer and Xfactor Malta finalist Sean Kamati took to social media to speak out on racist comments related to Miss Universe Malta’s winner, Beatrice Njoya.

Njoya, a 39-year-old woman from Cameroon, was crowned winner at yesterday’s competition. While she received public support from many, including PL politicians Ramona Attard and Claudette Abela Baldacchino, hateful comments still flooded comment sections on social media.

Kamati opened up about having experienced something similar during his journey on Xfactor, and while he appreciated all the support he received, people continued to label him as an outsider. He acknowledged the fact that national pride and wanting Malta to be as represented as possible is a valid argument.

However, this does not justify the bigotry and racism that were, and continue to be, common for foreign people living in Malta, he stated.

“Absolute racism and bigotry on the highest level. It’s so scary to think that we as people are like this. Bashing someone because of the colour of their skin or where they are from? We can all have opinions but let’s not forget that she is a person with feelings and not some random object. How would any of you feel if this was done to one of your own in any other country? Let’s not forget that we are all from somewhere and regardless of the country we are from, we are all from this planet,” said Kamati.

The singer added that the situation has now become “tiring and disappointing”.
