Lydia Abela, wife of Prime Minister Robert Abela, has nominated young Maltese hero, Jake Vella, for a Ġieħ ir-Repubblika award.

In a Facebook post made yesterday evening, Abela announced that she nominated Jake for the prestigious award following the inspiration and positive impact he left on the country.

“The young Jake Vella deserved national recognition for his positive impact on the Maltese society,” says Lydia in the post, “That is why, after discussing with his parents Mariska and Josie, I decided to nominate him for a Ġieħ ir-Repubblika as an appreciation for his inspiration and positivity that he’s leaving behind.”

Ġieħ ir-Repubblika is a national honour bestowed upon individuals that have served the country or impacted it in positive ways.

“We are happy that Jake’s name will remain synonymous with the Maltese and Gozitan population,” says Josie Vella, Jake’s father, in a brief interview with MaltaDaily.

“Thank you so much for the support, this has been a big unexpected surprise, we are overjoyed. Thank you to everyone,” concludes Jake’s mother, Mariska.
