Malta Tourism Authority Opens North America Office In New York City

Malta has officially strengthened its presence across the Atlantic after the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) inaugurated its new North America office in New York City on Friday.
The office will operate within Malta’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Manhattan, giving the Authority a permanent base to connect directly with the US travel industry, media, and stakeholders.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg said the office represents a “long-term commitment” to one of Malta’s most important tourism markets, pointing out that this week alone saw two major milestones for Malta in the US, the launch of direct flights between New York and Malta, and the premiere of Emmy Award-winning journalist Peter Greenberg’s documentary Hidden Malta.
MTA CEO Carlo Micallef described the new office as an “important milestone” in the Authority’s 11-year journey in North America, while MTA’s North America Representative Michelle Buttigieg said the space would act as a bridge between Malta and the region’s travel market.
Malta’s new strategy aims to attract tourism that generates strong economic value while remaining sustainable and respectful of the islands’ history and culture.
