MaltaPost Unveils Commemorative Stamp Of Malta’s Presidency Of The Council Of Europe

MaltaPost will be issuing a new stamp to celebrate Malta’s presidency of the Council of Europe, with a denomination of €2.50. The design for the new logo was created by Ms Shelly Borg.
“At the heart of the design is the spiral motif, a symbol deeply
embedded in Malta’s prehistory. The motif, inspired by a Conch Shell (red) and also a symbol of continuity, is complemented by three additional symbols that capture the essence of the Maltese Islands,” wrote MaltaPost in a statement.

The Sun (yellow), represents warmth, energy and the hospitality of the Maltese people; the “Luzzu” fishing boat (red), reflects Malta’s rich maritime traditions; and the Sea (blue), symbolizing Malta’s strong connection to the Mediterranean and its openness to dialogue and cooperation.
The Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg, France, is Europe’s oldest political organisation. Founded in the aftermath of the Second World War, it stands at the heart of the continent’s commitment to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
The new set will be issued in a sheet of 10 stamps, with each stamp measuring 44 mm x 31 mm, with a comb perforation of 14.1 x 14.2, and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark.
The sheets measure 115 mm x 182 mm and were produced in the offset process by Printex Limited. The issue consists of 35,000 stamps. The stamps will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo from Wednesday 25th June. Orders may be placed online at www.maltaphilately.com
