Malta’s Carnival 2025: A Spectacle Of Colour, Tradition And Celebration

The official programme for Malta’s Carnival 2025 has been unveiled, promising a vibrant and unforgettable experience.
This year’s main festivities will take place in Valletta and Floriana from 28th February to 4th March, while the traditional band parade in Ħamrun will kick off the celebrations on 23rd February.
Year after year, Malta’s Carnival attracts thousands of visitors from both Malta and abroad, drawn by its rich traditions, dazzling floats and energetic performances. According to Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, the festival continues to grow, thanks to the dedication of those who bring it to life.

This year’s programme features 18 competitive dance companies, 14 triumphal floats, 3 company floats, the King Carnival float, 5 large-scale installations and an array of creative masks. Additionally, 42 local councils across Malta and Gozo will host their own Carnival events, funded by the Local Government Division, showcasing parades, performances and traditional food celebrations.
Festivals Malta Chairman, Aaron Zahra, highlighted the festival’s increasing quality and its significance as a key cultural event, while Festivals Malta CEO, Frans Agius, emphasised the year-round effort and passion that go into making Carnival a success.
Among the traditional highlights is the much-anticipated Qarċilla, a satirical play penned by Michael Spagnol and directed by Joseph Galea, set to take place in Valletta’s Ordinance Street.
Artistic Director Jason Busuttil expressed excitement over the growing creativity and craftsmanship seen in the floats, costumes and performances, affirming that Malta’s Carnival has a bright future.
