Malta’s firefighters forming part of the Civil Protection Department (CPD) have safely returned back home after their work in Greece.

The 20 members of the CPD were deployed in Greece to fight the vicious wildfires that took over various locations as a result of extreme heat.

Touching photos have been shared on CPD’s Facebook page, showing the firefighters reuniting with their loved ones upon arriving at Malta’s airport.

Since the beginning of 2023, Greece has faced more than 5,200 fires, with more than 1,250 hectares of countryside destroyed.

The firefighters were deployed for a process known as pre-positioning, where teams are on the scene preemptively to be able to fight fires immediately.
