Malta’s first-ever refugee festival is coming to Floriana this weekend, and it’s being organised by refugee-led NGO Spark15.

As an attempt of enabling easier integration for refugees in Malta, the festival aims to primarily bring people together in a festival environment.

“People from refugee backgrounds make significant contributions to Maltese society. As Spark15 we believe that this is something we should celebrate, as refugees contribute to society in many different ways,” Spark15 president Dursa Mama Kadu told Lovin Malta.

“Many Maltese appreciate this fact and have given a warm welcome to people seeking sanctuary. So please join us to celebrate the refugee day together and make new friends,” he said.

The festival will begin at around 4pm in Floriana’s Argotti Gardens and will go on until 10pm.

During the festival, attendees can enjoy an array of traditional food from different countries, one of the best ways to be introduced to a new culture.

Apart from that, live music will also be a focus of the festival, bringing about local bands and even artists from the refugee community.
