Malta’s Power Surges Are So ‘Unstable’ They’re Literally Burning Phones

Malta’s power supply is a point of national discussion, but it isn’t just power outages that you should be worried about. It turns out that unstable power surges are actually burning phone screens, with an iPhone user explaining her recent situation to Lovin Malta.

Sarah* sent photos of her phone screen completely mangled and glitched. It turns out that she was simply charging her phone while in bed, and from one moment to another, the screen ended up fried, visibly glitching and getting worse with time.

Sarah was quite confused: this wasn’t the first time her screen needed a repair, but that was always because she dropped it. This time, the glitching happened out of nowhere. Naturally, she ventured to a repair shop and explained the curiosity and it turned out that the phone screen was burned by an electrical surge.

“This has been happening a lot,” the phone repair supplier told her.

He explained that Malta’s surges are so “unstable” that phone screens have been burned as a result.

For Sarah, this happened days before the nationwide power cuts that were recorded yesterday when power was lost, restored, and then lost and restored again due to a trip during maintenance at the Delimara power station.

Lovin Malta has sent questions to Enemalta which said it will be sending the reply later on today.
