Maltese architecture firm Valentino Architects won the World Interior of the Year award for a single residential dwelling at the World Architecture Festival for 2022.

The award was received for the Valletta-based firm’s conversion of late post-war painter Frank Portelli’s Attard art studio into a modern home.

Portelli’s studio and home, named La Serenissima, was beautifully transformed into a contemporary residence for his granddaughter, including a gorgeous open-air terrace with plenty of natural light.

The Maltese architects also preserved one of Portelli’s mood boards as a feature piece across from the kitchen, including some of his hand-written notes and sketches.

Dezeen had reported that Valentino Architects were tasked with transforming the existing structure into a new residence, detailing that the house was originally designed in 1995.

The World Architecture Festival is a prestigious event that brings together architects from all over the globe, in an attempt to recognise commendable work.

Well done Valentino Architects!
