64-Year-Old Maltese Man Arrested With Three Kilos Of Heroin Worth €600,000

A 64-year-old Maltese man was arrested after being found with three kilos of heroin worth around €600,000. 

He was arrested at the Malta International Airport on Wednesday evening, in relation to drug trafficking and importation. 

The man, who is a resident of Bormla, was stopped by police as soon as he arrived in Malta from a flight from Brussels, Belgium.

After assistance from the canine unit was requested, suspicion grew, as the dog started pointing toward something suspicious in the same suitcase.

The police opened the suitcase and in a false bottom, a large package containing drugs was found, with an estimated street value of around €600,000.

Magistrate Marsanne Farrugia was informed of the discovery and appointed an inquiry.

The man is being detained at the General Headquarters, Floriana and is expected to be brought to court later today.
