Four local NGOs have invited the public to protest the Maccabi Tel Aviv football team who is playing against Malta today, while Israel facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice.

The NGOs organising the protest are The Watermelon Warriors, Ġustizzja Għall-Palestina, The Lebanese Advocates and Moviment Graffitti.

“How can European football operate as usual when such grave accusations are being investigated?” wrote the NGOs on social media.

The statement published by the NGOs said that the matter is a local concern as well because “Maccabi fans have been linked to violent and provocative behaviour in past matches.”

The protest is set to take place today at 6pm outside the Tony Bezzina Stadium in Paola and the NGOs invited participants to bring empty pots to the proposal to show refusal for sportswashing on the Maltese ground and to support Palestine
