World’s Smallest Mammal Shows Up In A Maltese Sink – And Gets Called Albert
A man in Malta woke up to a pleasant surprise this morning, finding the world’s smallest mammal right in his kitchen sink.
At first, he was perplexed at the sight, and could not figure out whether he was looking at a baby rat or a tiny shrew.
“So, I woke up this morning and in the kitchen sink found this little creature, how it got there is a mystery and I’m not sure if it’s a baby rat or a tiny shrew, any ideas please?” the man said on well known Maltese facebook platform ‘The Salott’.
A few moments later, he updated all of the invested viewers with an update on the mammal, which he temporarily called Albert.
“Update on Albert – yes he’s a shrew have been in contact with the National Natural History Museum and they sent me this and he’s being released back into the wild,” he said.
It turns out that Albert is an Etruscan Shrew, one of the smallest mammals in the world.
The man also uploaded photos of the shrew next to a normal-sized lighter, showing just how small this creature is.
Albert’s sweet story had a nice happy ending, and it is currently being released back to the Maltese wild.
