Man Arrested After Armed Robbery In Xagħra

The Police are investigating a robbery that took place yesterday evening at a shop in Xagħra, Gozo.
Around 8.00pm, the Police were informed that assistance was needed at Vjal it-8 ta’ Settembru, Xagħra, after a person, allegedly armed with a firearm, entered a retail shop.
Police immediately went to the scene, and a preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged offender arrived at the location in a car, entered the shop, pointed the weapon at the cashier, grabbed the cash drawer, and then fled the scene in the same vehicle with an amount of cash.
It is believed that there were accomplices in the car. Further investigation showed that the car had been stolen shortly before from Xewkija.
While a search for the alleged offenders began, the Police received information that one of them was at the Mgarr Harbour. Police immediately went to the location and arrested the man, who was attempting to escape to Malta.
No one was injured in this incident. The Police are continuing their investigations and searching for another person allegedly involved in the robbery. Magistrate Simone Grech was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry.
