Man Arrested After Shots Fired In Paola

A man was arrested on Sunday night after a gun was allegedly shot on a Paola street, an incident that shattered the quiet evening and triggered a swift intervention by police.
Police spokesperson said no one was injured in the incident, though bullet fragments were recovered from Melita Street at around 9pm.
The suspect, a man in his early thirties, briefly hid inside a nearby residence before surrendering to officers following negotiations. TVM named the man as being 33-year-old Melvin Debono, known as “Il-Quws.”
The outlet reported that Debono has previously been granted bail on at least six occasions in relation to other alleged crimes. Police are still searching for another individual who is believed to have been arguing with Debono when the shots were fired.
Earlier this year, Debono was arraigned on multiple charges connected to a high-speed police chase that ended in a crash involving a rapid intervention unit vehicle and a parked car.
