A 40-year-old man is reportedly dead, and another man injured, after a workplace accident in Ta’ Qali earlier this evening.

Police have confirmed that the accident occurred at around 6:30pm, with assistance being called to the scene of the accident.

Through preliminary investigations, it was evident that a piece of machinery that had two workers on it overturned, with one of the workers falling into a narrow shaft of around a storey.

The 40-year-old man from Gharghur fell down the shaft, which led to his fatality. He was certified dead on the scene of the accident.

The other man, the 35-year-old resident of Mgarr, was taken to Mater Dei hospital to receive care for his injuries, which have not yet been divulged.

Police investigations are still underway.
