America just got to witness a jaw-dropping site of an eclipse yesterday and Malta’s only exposure to this was social media. But worry not, in just over three years Malta will have an almost total view of a complete eclipse passing over much of the central Eastern Hemisphere.

On 2nd August 2027, a solar eclipse will pass over Malta, generating spectacular scenes of this highly anticipated global phenomenon.

Malta is expected to catch a partial view of the total eclipse starting at 10am and ending just after 12.30pm. The maximum eclipse is expected to occur at 11.17am and it will be reportedly be visible from Senglea when 97.33% of the Sun’s surface will be covered by the moon.

The partial eclipse is expected to have a 0.9687 magnitude.

This incredible site will occur over much of the central Eastern Hemisphere. Totality will commence over the eastern Atlantic Ocean and travel across the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco, and continue across parts of North Africa and the Middle East. Some major locations include Malaga, Libya, Gibraltar, and Tunisia.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun’s, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.

Totality occurs in a narrow path across Earth’s surface, with the partial solar eclipse visible over a surrounding region thousands of kilometres wide.

This news comes after yesterday’s total solar eclipse that crossed North America parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality.
