Trigger warning: The following content may be disturbing for some viewers.

A stray cat that was cared for by a local cat feeder was found brutally murdered in a brown box outside the feeder’s house in Mqabba.

It appears that the cat, which has been described to have a friendly and lovable nature, was captured and killed, before being left in a brown box in Triq l-Ispnar.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, Claire Briffa, the cat feeder who had been caring for Misha for the last ten years, told Lovin Malta that she was disgusted and heartbroken by the act.

“First thing’s first, there is no Christmas or New Year’s celebrations for me and my family,” Claire told Lovin Malta.

“I am disgusted by this cruel act, I’ve been living here for 15 years, and I’ve been feeding this cat for 10 years, I never bothered anyone. This case breaks my heart, she was a quiet and loving cat,” she said.

“Cat feeders need more support in Malta – in the sense of adding more cat sanctuaries, and stray cats being collected from the streets.”

“This is just one case of animal cruelty, and this country has heard of a lot, so something needs to happen,” she said, appealing for the government to allocate more funds to help stray animals in Malta.

“I will continue being the voice for all the stray cats in Malta,” she promised.

She expressed how she is welcoming the support received after the news, but stressed that it’s not enough to give these stray cats a voice, and more needs to be done.

Claire also extended her thanks to the Animal Rights Foundation (RAR), after co-founder Romina Frendo immediately offered her support after hearing about the act, and will be paying for the autopsy of the cat.

The Animal Rights Foundation and Claire are also offering a €300 reward for anyone who has any information about the cruel act.

Police told Lovin Malta that it received the report on Monday regarding a stray cat that was found dead in Triq L-Ispnar, Mqabba.

Investigations are currently ongoing in order to catch whoever committed the senseless act.
