‘Tal-Mistħija’: Mosta Councillor Calls Out Mayor Over Town Sanitation

Mosta councillor and former PL mayor Chris Grech took to Facebook to complain about the lack of upkeep in his home town by  the newly-elected PN council.

In a long post today, Grech claimed that the last time  Mosta was properly cleaned was 2nd June, almost two months ago. He elaborated about how the town square is littered with bird droppings and dirty water in fountains and posted photos to back up his argument.

“This is shameful. Pigeons have always been a problem for the local council. Pigeons didn’t start passing over Mosta once PN won the local council,” he said, adding that the council has all the necessary resources to clean the town.

Grech also highlighted how the PN manifesto stated that more importance will be given to Mosta’s cleanliness.

The councillor said that he spoke with the current mayor, Joseph Gatt, who promised him that the piazza will be cleaned, but nothing happened. Grech concluded by saying how, during his tenure, he left an ongoing contract regarding maintenance and cleaning of the town.

“You would be surprised if you learned how some individuals abuse their role in their local society and then strongly protest because the town square is closed down once a week”, Grech concludes.

The comments range from some applauding him for speaking up and others pointing out Mosta’s faults during the time that Grech was mayor, such as the trees incident.

“The town square maintenance contract was signed for four years, cleaning occurs twice a year only, that of which two washes only amount up to more than five thousand as you had told me. I will stop here.”, Joseph Gatt commented.

Do you think that Mosta is not as clean as it was before?
