Mosta Mourns Loss Of Indri Is-Sagristan On Santa Marija, The Feast Closest To His Heart
Mosta is mourning the passing of Andrew Borda Indri is-Sagristan, who died yesterday on the day of the feast he loved so much after a long battle with cancer.
Indri, who died aged 77, was widely described as a humble and loving man, contributing greatly to the upkeep of the Rotunda church during his 48 years as sacristan of the parish.
Apart from his contribution to the town, Indri had one of the largest collections of vintage films on the island, and he also had his own small cinema.
Beyond his closest family members, many have already issued tributes in his memory, including Labour MP Alex Muscat, and actress Joanna Busuttil.
“Rest in peace dear Indri. You chose your favourite day to pass on my friend,” Muscat said. “Thank you for all you have done for Mosta.”
“You were the most humble man with a heart of gold that I’ve ever met. It is a great honour to me that you are my uncle,” Busuttil said.
“I love you so much and thank you so much for teaching me so much in life and how to be positive and love. Apart from your hobbies – you dedicated 48 years to the Mosta church and to our Saint Mary,” his grandson Franklin Borda Scicluna said.
“Today on Saint Mary’s day – she held your hands and ascended you to heaven. You were in so much pain this couple of years.”
“With heavy heart – I will miss you and will always love you. But happy to see the miracle that accrued,” he said.
Local production house VSquared had also done a video on Indri five years ago, showing his passion for vintage film and his vast collection.
