Mosta’s Wied Il-Għasel Chapel Vandalised With Spray-Painted Crosses And Spanish Slurs

The facade of a chapel situated in Mosta’s Wied il-Għasel has been severely vandalised with green spray paint all along its sides, in the latest act of disrespect towards our cultural heritage.

Photos uploaded to Facebook in the last few hours show the chapel vandalised with spray-painted crosses and what seems to be a vulgar Spanish slur.

Two crosses were spray-painted on the front side of the chapel, while “maricón”, which is a highly offensive way of referring to homosexuals in Spanish, is sprayed boldly on the side.

Three other large drawings featuring initials can also be seen on the side of the chapel.

At this stage, no authorities have yet commented on the act. However, many residents have strongly condemned the act, calling for CCTVs to be installed in the area to avoid similar crimes in the future.

This is not the first time that the chapel was subject to vandalism, and it spent many years in a poor state due to neglect and destruction by vandals.

The Chapel of St. Paul the Hermit is a small church located in a cave in Wied il-Għasel, in Mosta, Malta. Many legends are connected to this chapel, and it is said to have been constructed in the 17th Century.

What do you make of this atrocious act?
