Mount Carmel Forensic Ward Patient To Be Charged With Murder Of Fellow Inmate
Police have arrested a man for alleged involvement in the murder of Jesmond Gatt in Mount Carmel Hospital.
The man was already being held in the psychiatric hospital where he spoke to an official about his alleged involvement in the murder last summer.
54-year-old Gatt was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital in critical condition after he was found in a pool of blood with severe head injuries in the forensic ward last July. He was being held in the ward with two other people, including the accused.
Gatt had recently been released from prison after serving a four-year term. He was charged with arson in April and was denied bail, leading to his detention in this ward.
He is currently being held at the Police Headquarters and is expected to be arraigned for the murder of Gatt later on today.
