New Msida Creek Bridge To Open On Sunday
After a year of work on the Msida Creek project, the new bridge connecting Ta’ Xbiex to Pietà will open for use on 2nd November.
Spanning 14 metres across the canal, the bridge marks the completion of a key phase of the project. It will not only improve connectivity but also serve as the entrance to the newly formed waterway, designed to address the flooding problems historically associated with the area.
The new two-lane road will help reroute traffic, paving the way for the next phase of the project, which includes the creation of a 2,200-square-metre public square in front of the parish church.
Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Minister Chris Bonett explained that this infrastructure investment is made possible by the country’s strong economy. He emphasised that the project aims not only to enhance vehicular connectivity through new roads but also to prioritise the community.
“This is more than just a road intervention. It is an investment in people’s quality of life, creating open spaces for walking, cycling, and physical activity where families can spend time together. The Msida Creek project is a clear example of the benefits that come from a growing economy capable of investing in projects with lasting value for today and for future generations,” Minister Bonett said.
Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul added that the project is being carried out with great care to minimise inconvenience. He highlighted that major works and traffic diversions are scheduled during weekends or at night, with prior communication provided to residents and drivers.
