Activist group Young Progressive Beings Malta is leading an action happening later today in Valletta, as a response to the latest femicide to shock the Maltese Islands.

This comes after the news of yet another femicide in Malta, after Nicolette Ghirxi was tragically killed in the hands of her ex-partner.

The impromptu action, ‘No More Femicide’, will start off at the Valletta Design Cluster, where placards and banners will be designed between 5pm and 7pm. Afterwards, attendees will proceed with a silent procession across Valletta at 7pm.

“Men are killing women. We must not mince our words anymore. Men are killing women, and Malta’s institutions are not prioritising our safety,” a representative from Young Progressive Beings told Lovin Malta. 

“We are gathering in Valletta to demonstrate the gravity of the situation, and to demand better protection as women. We deserve better protection. Nicolette deserved better protection.”

Attendees are being asked to wear black, with the action set to resemble the setting of a procession, as women are set to hold up flags relating to the femicide.
