More than 25 Maltese nativity scenes, including two large-scale masterpieces depicting village and town life in Malta, are being showcased at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The exhibition, launched by Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici together with MEP Alex Agius Saliba, marks the largest overseas display of Maltese cribs ever organised.

In his speech, Minister Bonnici highlighted how this heritage, passed down through generations, is now being enjoyed by thousands of visitors to the European Parliament. He called it a significant achievement in promoting Malta’s rich cultural traditions beyond its shores.

“The fact that this exhibition is being held in one of Europe’s most prestigious institutions reflects great pride for the many passionate volunteers behind this cultural expression,” said Bonnici.

MEP Alex Agius Saliba expressed his pride in turning this long-awaited dream into a reality, adding that the exhibition celebrates the talent and traditions of Malta and Gozo. The displays uniquely represent various towns and villages from the islands, making the event a showcase of national identity.

The exhibition, organised by the Ministry for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, together with the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, runs this week at the European Parliament in Brussels.
