PA Postpones Decision On Four-Storey Apartment Block Overlooking Ġgantija Heritage Site

The Planning Authority board has yet again postponed the decision regarding the development of a four-storey apartment block next to the Ta’ Kola windmill and the Ġgantija temples in Gozo.
The proposed development is comprised of a 24-apartment block overlooking Ġgantija World Heritage Site, which garnered over 1,800 objections during the representations period.
The board postponed the decision with the intention to give the developer more time to present a design that is more in line with the existing buildings in the locality.
Concerns were also raised about the monstrous blank party wall that the development would introduce in the quaint area.
The neighbourhood in question, which is mostly comprised of two-storey townhouses, forms part of the cultural skyline of Xagħra, with many residents concerned about how such a development would alter the skyline of the town.
“This development, if approved, will set a dangerous precedent for an entire neighbourhood that forms part of the cultural landscape and the setting of three top heritage sites: the temples, the windmill, and the Xagħra Circle,” activists said on Wednesday.
