PN Councillor Slams Santa Venera’s Local Council For Spending Almost €20,000 On Bus Shelter
Freshly elected PN councillor Karl Carabott has criticised the previous local council’s decision to spend nearly €20,000 on a new bus shelter in Santa Venera.
The steel shelter is located in Triq il-Kbira, San Ġużepp and was installed in the week before the MEP and local council elections. The shelter cost the local council a total of €19,872.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, the PN councillor stated that apart from not being aesthetically pleasing not mentioning the fact that it is attached to a UCA building, the shelter offers little to no protection be it rain or sunshine.
Speaking to Times of Malta, Carabott also mentioned former mayor Stephen Sultana did not respond to the cost of the structure.
The shelter was selected by tender and the contract was awarded to the sole bidder, George Vella, in October 2023.
The ex-mayor denied the timing of installation was connected to the recent local elections and stated it had to be replaced as it was becoming hazardous.
Do you think the local council should have spent less on this shelter?
