Police Arrest Two Men After Sliema And San Ġwann Hold-Ups

Police officials arrested two men amid ongoing investigations related to two hold-ups in San Ġwann and Sliema.Authorities were informed of the first robbery at 2am in a Sliema shop located on The Strand.
The men – allegedly armed with a knife – demanded and stole money from the cashier – a 25-year-old man from Nepal.Later this morning, at around 11.30am, police were informed of another hold-up this time in a pharmacy in Triq tal-Balal, San Ġwann. The thieves ran away from the scene and dropped the knife allegedly used in the hold-up. They got away in a red Toyota Ractis.

Shortly after the hold up in San Ġwann, the police started the search for a car and found it being driven in Ħamrun in Mountbatten street. The police stopped and the 42-year-old Maltese man from Birżebbuġa.Investigations found that the red Toyota Ractis was used in both hold-ups and eventually led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Libyan man from Sliema who was arrested at his residence.
Magistrate Dr Joseph Mifsud LL.D has been informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry while the police investigations for both hold-ups are still ongoing.
