An insane amount of love and congratulations poured in for our very own Aquaman, Neil Agius, after his huge accomplishment yesterday evening.

After landing at Għar Lapsi, Neil was welcomed by a massive crowd which burst into cheers for completing his remarkable three-day challenge. Prime Minister Robert Abela, was there in-person to greet Neil upon his arrival and so was fellow high-octane athlete Fabio Spiteri.

The emotional scene was nationwide news and as expected, prompted some virtual praise from both Maltese and even international faces.

Namely, President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, another Maltese icon, took to Facebook to congratulate the swimmer.

“Our Maltese legend, the extraordinary Neil Agius has done it again,” she said in the post, “The unbelievable athlete has broken another record with his superhuman no-stop swim around the Maltese Islands!”

It would seem that everyone is in awe at his “superhuman” capabilities, with even Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech sharing their support for the athlete online.

Fabio Spiteri also took to Facebook to voice his pride in Neil, commenting “Glad I made it in time to witness Neil Agius breaking the world record of 140km non stop swim!!!” followed by the highly appropriate hashtags #nolimits and #forzamalta , a testament to the swimmer’s resolve.

Other national athletes poured in their praise including Olympic swimmer Sasha Gatt and weightlifter Yazmin Zammit Stevens. The comments weren’t limited to just athletes, but also other notable influencers like local comedian James Ryder and pop-star Owen Leuellen.

International icons also got wind of the achievements and were quick to congratulate Neil. Welsh DJ Jamie Jones posted, “Imagine swimming for 3 days, all day all night, no sleep just swimming… Bravo what a legend,” on an Instagram story alongside the coverage of Neil’s arrival.

Fitness influencer Tavi Castro, who was seen prowling the Maltese seas earlier this September, also gave props to his fellow sea-dweller stating that there was “Never a doubt” in Neil’s capabilities.

The praise was very much deserved. Neil’s dedication remains to be an inspiration to all Maltese folk and it’s absolutely insane to think that this man is even leaving an impact overseas!

Congratulations to Neil once again and of course, can’t go without giving credit to his team who helped make all of this possible while keeping him safe and cared for throughout the whole three days.
