‘Pray For Rain’: Maltese Archdiocese Calls On Priests To Join In Prayer For Rainfall Amid Drought
In a heartfelt plea, the Maltese Archdiocese has issued a rare call to priests and religious superiors across the islands to join in prayer for rain.
The circular, titled Talb Għax-Xita (Prayer for Rain), was recently sent out to urge parish priests, church rectors, and religious leaders to pray for rain to nurture the land as drought concerns rise.
With farmers and citizens feeling the impact of low rainfall, the Archdiocese emphasised the urgent need for rain to arrive “in its due time” and “in the right measure.”
“The lack of rain is strongly felt, and a number of farmers and other people have expressed the wish for us to pray for rain, which is so badly needed,” the circular read.
“It would be appropriate for us to place our prayer before the Lord for nourishing rain, in its right time and measure, to bring good.”
The circular was issued from the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana on 25th October, signed by Charles Bugeja, Chancellor, and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea Curmi, Vicar General.
Malta is currently experiencing a significant lack of rainfall, leading to concerns among farmers and residents.
Data from the Malta International Airport indicates that, as of 4th November, Msida has recorded 75.8 mm of rainfall since 1st September, which is below the seasonal average.
